Starting a Roller Derby league is no easy task. It takes a lot of hard work and I am proud to be part of the core group who is putting their blood, sweat, and tears (quite literally) into building this league. But it’s not something we can do alone, oh no… it also takes the support of the community. After all, we can practice hard and create all kinds of wonderful strategies but if we have no one to play for, what fun is that?!
We have been trying to get ourselves out in the community by attending events, hosting bake sales, talking to as many people as we can, and most importantly we’ve banded together whenever possible to support other great causes throughout the county. Our hard work is paying off. People are beginning to recognize us, know who we are, invite us to events, and cheer us on. It is AMAZING!
This week we were invited out to Valley Heritage Radio in Renfrew to have a chat with Andrew Cartwright on the morning show. Andrew’s station manager, Jason Marshall, thought it might be fun if Andrew were to come out and join us at one of our practices. Of course, we accepted and you can be certain I’ll report on that adventure when it happens. In the meantime, they so graciously gave us a recording of our segment (as well as some banter that happened after we left the sound booth) so that we can share it with you, our friends, family, and fans. Enjoy!
